Minister O’Brien announces €500,000 worth of grants for community climate engagement

County Carlow Environmental Network awarded grant to engage new audiences on climate action

Funding Award
The County Carlow Environmental Network (CCEN) has been awarded funding from the Climate
Actions Work Engagement Fund to support our work to bring people together and share
information on climate action. The fund is focused on climate engagement, awareness and
communications – helping communities to reach new audiences in their locality.
Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications Darragh O’Brien, and Minister for the
Circular Economy Alan Dillon recently announced the awarding of €500,000 worth of grants
nationally under the Climate Actions Work Engagement fund.
CCEN has been granted €2,500. This will help fund the eco-film festival at VISUAL Carlow this
autumn, climate cafes (the next on on Earth Day, 22nd April, Waterlilies Tullow), environmental and
food-related workshops, and other community gatherings.
CCEN’s Mission
CCEN’s mission is to invite the County Carlow community to take action on climate initiatives.
Change that can seem overwhelming on your own feels possible in community.
Social, informative and fun, CCEN events invite people from across the county to get involved. You
can join us in many ways: As an audience member at eco-films, an active volunteer, a participant in
our events like the climate cafes, or a committee member, helping with whatever resonates with
you. Be the change you want to see in the world! As Socrates said, “The secret of change is to
focus all your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.”
Congratulating CCEN, Denise Charlton, Chief Executive of Community Foundation Ireland said:

have contributed knowledge and insights from our network of local community groups to inform
and deliver this Government initiative.”
The fund is administered by Community Foundation Ireland which as part of its mission of Equality
For All in Thriving Communities has been empowering local groups, researchers and advocates to
take action on climate and nature since 2000. The Foundation’s work in this space is informed by its
25 years’ experience of partnering with 5,000 voluntary, community and charitable groups as a
philanthropic hub.
