Swap, Repair, and Create: Celebrate Textile Reuse Day in Carlow

As we realise that fast fashion is clogging our planet with enough clothes for six generations, what can we do to change our own relationship with clothes?
On Saturday 3rd of May 2025 we’re weaving several threads together to help you change your purchasing patterns where you can swap, repair and create new textiles. Crochet, knitting and upcycling clothes is fun, creative, useful, and probably easier than you think. A small crochet’d square can be the patch that fixes the elbow of that gorgeous, favourite jersey. Upcycling gives creativity a chance to shine.
Clothing Swap
Thanks to Carlow County Council, we will be hosting a clothing swap. Clothing swaps are a great opportunity to have a bit of fun and try out new styles and fashions, whilst keeping clothing in circulation for longer. Simply bring along 1-5 ready to wear items of (the type of thing you might gift to a friend, not broken, unwashed or torn, and no underwear or swimwear please), and swap for up to 5 new items.
Textiles Repair Café
Why not join our friendly textiles repair team for our first Pop Up Textile Repair Café! They’ll be there to help you with a variety of simple repairs to keep your favourite clothing and textiles in use for longer.
On the day, they can help you with:
- Patching holes in clothing and textiles
- Taking up hems on skirts, tops, or trouser legs
- Fixing zips (please note: we can fix but not replace zips)
- Replacing buttons
Whilst they can’t upcycle or do major alterations on the day, you are very welcome to use your timeslot to get advice. The team will happily guide you on how to complete your upcycling or alteration project at home.
